It's been a great 2 months since I launched Kooky Bakes. Loads of great feedback and a few custom orders is beginning to make my hard work pay off.  With Molly Bakes super swamped by a load of private orders, she's been leaving me to run the UpMarket stall by myself.

Every week it's getting easier to make the masses of baking that is requirted for the stall.  Every week I add something new to the mix.  Generally I look to my childhood for inspiration and this week I came up trumps.

As a kid I loved those ooey gooey marshmallow crisped rice treats. Almost as much as i loved the Rice Krispy Treats, I loved the American Breakfast cereal Fruit Loops.  After some serious hunting, I managed to track some down in the UK.  I've taken the Fruit loops and merged them with a rice krispy treat to make the Krazy Kids Slice.  Kids and adults could not resist their colourful charm.  They were a hit!

Also new this week was the MEGA Blueberry Muffin tops. Yes I was shouting MEGA (oops just did it again) Blueberry... Why you ask? 3 Types of blueberries in there.... Fresh for jammyness, Dried for a bit of chew and Freeze Dried for Crunch. They flew out!

If I may say so myself, the stall is looking better every week.  I get loads of people gawking at the stall, when the gawking is done they buy. Which is the name of the game. No?

Once again, despite baking more than the week prior I managed to sell out by about 5:30 Not bad for a hard days work?

Be sure to come down this week at the Sunday UPMarket and say Hi and get a treat or two!

The Kooky Bakes movement has been gaining momentum. I've had several requests to do bespoke baking over the past few weeks, which is great!  My partner in crime Ms Molly Bakes business has also hit the big time. Her lovely Cake Pops are now available in the Bakery department at Selfridges. Very impressive indeed! maybe one day my little kooky creations will be sold from the same country of one of the best department stores in the Uk.

With Molly bakes being absolutely busy with the Selfridges launch, she suggested that I do the Sunday UpMarket stall on my own while she took a little break after the Cake Pop Launch.

To be honest i was sh**ting myself with fear and excitement at the thought. how on earth would i be able to cope with baking enough Kooky delights to fill the stall for a full day of trading.  Not only did I want to do all the Kooky treats that I've been doing for the last few weeks, I needed to do some of the things to keep the Molly Bakes customers happy. It was an exciting challenge to find a way to stamp the Kooky Bakes ethos onto cupcakes, whoopie pies and brownies. Plus i had the added challenge of presenting the Kooky Bakes 'look' to the market stall.

I spent two weeks of baking, testing and sampling different recipes to find the perfect Kooky treatment for the solo ride of the stall.  So once my flavours and recipes were hammered down, it was all down to a 48 hour baking marathon.

When it came to the baking days... I felt like Santa Claus with my list. I kept checking it, making sure I was not missing a component or step. A bit anal, but it kept me focused with such a large task at hand.

I think I was a little over zealous when I planned what I'd like to achieve, that said only two things got axed due to time constraints and one item spontaneously was created for the menu on a whim.

Come Sunday morning I was nauseous with nerves, thankfully The Bear was with me to calm my nerves and be my little assistant on the day. I had a vision of how I wanted it to look, and i'm pleased that it turned out like I imagined. I got loads of compliments on the way the stall looked which made it worth while.

The biggest compliments came from the customers: some coming back for seconds: one couple from Paris begging me to come and sell in Paris because they dont have any thing this good (who knew?) and even a threat of a law-suit for baking criminally good treats!

At 5:30 pm when all the stock had gone, we packed up feeling completely shattered from a long couple of days of hard work.  At the same time I was filled with such excitement of doing it all again!

I'll be doing it all again at the Brick Lane UPMarket this Sunday, the 13th of June.  Hope to see you all at the stall!

This have been going really good at Kooky HQ. My partner in crime Ms. Molly Bakes were asked to pull up a pitch in the super successful Marylebone Cabbages & Frocks Market.  I have to be the first to admit that i was very excited about the market.  Who would not be? Spending a warm spring day in a leafy park selling baked goods... What could be more idyllic?

The stall looked fantastic with the natural hedging as a back drop. It really set off the lovely creations of Molly Bakes & Kooky Bakes perfectly!  The customers were amazing! It was a lovely mix of American Ex-Pats, tourists and locals. I even had a twitter followers that came from Leeds & Cambridge to sample the Kooky Creations!

Welcome to the first blog entry for Kooky Bakes. Such an incredible couple of months it has been since I got the bee in my bonnet to launch my Kooky Bakes. Back in 2005 I left my 'real' job to start a bakery business.  It's take quite a while to to get here today, but it has all been worth it.  I know with 99% certainty that if I launched my baked goods business it would have failed. Not because of the product, but more of my lack of business knowledge.

So all of that aside, I'm finally doing it.  Looking around there are loads of baked goods companies some are fantastic, some are completely rubbish.  I'm striving to be the fantactic rather than the latter.

The initial response to Kooky Bakes has been fantastic. I shared a stall with Molly Bakes at The Sunday UpMarket on Brick Lane over the Bank Holiday weekend.Kooky Bakes & Molly Bakes made the perfect combination for anyone looking for a tasty baked goods.  Almost like Girl Bakes and Boy Bakes on one stall.  Molly had her cupcakes, whoopie pies and cake pops along side our kookies.   The stall looked like a picnic in the woodlands complete with grass, trees and vintage tablecloths.

It was so much fun to see the faces of people after I had explained the Kooky Bakes range.  The Junk Food Kookie caused the most finger pointing and oooohing/ aaahhhing reaction. Surprisingly only 2 of the hundreds that sampled did not get the concept of Junk Food.  Not bad odds eh?

So what is next?  Well I'm going to continue popping up at Molly Bakes stall when sh'll have me LOL! I'm working on the logistics for the online shop and also working on expanding the Kooky Bakes range.

I should run now! Remember to keep it Kooky!
